Commodity Associations under the aegis of Federation of Agriculture Commodity Association of Nigeria (FACAN) has disagreed with the constitution of interim executive members by some agrieved members of the association.
The agrieved members while constituting the interim executive members of the association had claimed that the tenure of the current executive members had elapsed for the past 7years.
They also claimed that the current executive members have being receiving money from the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment to improve export of agriculture commodities in the country without disbursing it to the members.
But the General Secretary and the Executive Secretary FACAN Bello Nuhu Dogondaijiin and Prince Peter Bakare respectively in statement stated that no association has powers whatsoever to dissolve the executive of FACAN or conduct an election for the executive of FACAN..
He said “For the records, FACAN election took place in 2021 during which all executive members were duly elected by the financial members and election will not be due until 2025.
He said “FACAN is a registered organization governed by its constitution and companies and allies matters Act. It’s existence is constituted in the board of trustees by the provisions of the constitution of FACAN. Commodity associations, hence, members of the public are advised to disregard any contrary views against the above”.
The association members nominated 6 interim committee member made up of Mohammed Babayo Maina to represent Northwest, Prof Garba Dikko, President of Date Farmers represented North East, Mohammed AliBaba to represent North Central, Abdul Yusuf represented South South, Hon Ebeh Ikechukwu represented South East, Bola Oyeleke, President of Tomato farmers represented South West.
The President of Walnut Growers, Processors and Marketers Association Dr Austine Maduka read the terms of reference for the interim executive and charged them to communicate the dissolution of the Executive members of FACAN to the board of trustees and communicate to the Ministry of Trade and Investment through the Director of Commodity and export department of the dissolution.
They are also expected to write to the former executives to handover all documents in their possession saying their tenure has expired over 7years and it has been dissolved.
He said they had decided to use the conference room of the Ministry of Trade and Investment to announce the dissolution so as to make it official, saying the ministry would not have allowed them use their conference room of what they are doing is not legal
