Community laments alleged acquisition of access road in Ibadan

Spokesperson for the community, Mr. Olugbenga Adebayo

Residents of Awodu community, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, have raised the alarm over what they described as unlawful acquisition of access road and construction of a building by an individual.

The community is located off Akala expressway, Ibadan.

Spokesperson for the community, Mr. Olugbenga Adebayo, lamented that sometime in January, residents woke up to see construction workers digging the ground for possible erection of a structure on the access road, which links the community from the main road.

He said:  “When we approached them, the buyer of the land told us that he had purchased the land and that he was building on it immediately. This prompted us to approach the Kuola Division of the Nigeria Police to make a formal complaint.

“It was gathered that the police visited the scene and arrested the buyer and some of the workers working on the land. The matter, however, took another twist when a call came to Kuola Police Station to refer the case to Iyaganku Area Command for further investigation.”

Another resident, Odunayo Oyedeji, said: “When we got to Iyaganku Area Command, we thought they would handle the case in a way that would favour us since we are the complainants. We, however, started noticing some changes in the way the matter was going.

“It was at that point that we decided to approach the Ministry of Lands and Housing since it is the ministry in charge of such matters.”
The matter also took us to the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) for its intervention.”

As at press time, officials of the Ministry of Lands and Housing had pasted a stop work notice on the fence erected on the land, and a two-week notice within which the structure must be removed.
