The people of Oro-Akwor village and the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Rumueme kingdom, Obio-Akpor Local Council have demanded the quick intervention of the Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force and the State government to stop the incessant killings of indigenes and non-indigenes in Mgbuoshimini Community.

The community said their appeal became extremely necessary because both they and other neighbouring communities have been exposed and forced to witness what they described as “brazen killings and murder of their people and residents of the area.”

The community, in a statement signed by the CDC Chairman, Geoffrey Onuoha Amadi said the killing followed a particular pattern with the recent incident, on Saturday, January 13, where a key stakeholder, Ndidi Livingstone, was trailed to his church and was assassinated by gunmen, lamenting that the death toll of notable personalities has called for a Save Our Soul situation.

Onuoha-Amadi also recounted that since 2013, notable people in the community had been assassinated, giving an instance of High Chief Kingsley Nyekazi Chukwu, who was murdered inside his home on March 14, 2013.

He added that between 2017 and 2023, multiple killings were carried out, alleging the happenings are not unconnected to wranglings with those that are anti-community who at some point, were declared wanted by the police for masterminding the killing since 2017.

According to him: “It is sad to note that thereafter, in the same 2017, the same killer gang was also accused of murdering more than thirty (30) people at the Waterside Market popularly called Ahia-Ogologo situated in the Community. This has emboldened them,  because up till today, no arrest has been effected until these recent further killings; as they still go about with their known sponsors threatening to kill more any moment.”

He added: “We are saddened by the fact that as a people, we have been undergoing attacks by a certain killer group which killed multiple persons in our Community since 2017 and have continued to eliminate our prominent sons since then and placed many of us on their hit list to the knowledge of the security Agencies including the Nigerian Police Force.”

He, however, demanded the Nigerian Police Force and the Rivers State government to rise to the occasion and save the Community.

Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, vowed not to let the killers of the late Livingstone go unpunished after he paid the deceased family to pay his condolences.

Disu was accompanied by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Agip Police Division, and other senior officers to the House of the late CDC Chairman.

The Police boss, who was received by Godspower Livingstone, the elder brother of the slain Chief, condoled with the deceased’s wife, Mrs Patience Ndidi Livingstone, her children, and other members of the family.

He assured that a manhunt for the killer squad has begun, saying the Police are edging closer to apprehending them.
