Coronation: All roads lead to westminster abbey, Buckingham Palace


The much awaited Coronation of King Charles III and Camilla, the Queen Consort will take place today (Saturday) at the Westminster Abbey from 11am. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will anoint the King.

Both the King and the Queen Consort will be driven from Buckingham Palace to the Westminster Abbey in the newest state carriage, the Diamond Jubilee State Coach, which was built to celebrate the 60th anniversary celebration of Her Majesty’s reign in 2012.

After the coronation, they will be driven back in the 260-year old Gold State Coach. This has been in use for every Coronation since the crowning of King William IV in 1831.

More dignitaries than attended the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II in September are expected to be in attendance for the event . The ceremony will be amidst heavy security that the Metropolitan Police has named as “Operation Golden Orb.”

There will be more than 10,000 police officers have been assigned to guard the ceremony, and that’s aside the about another 10,000 military personnel to form a ring of steel around the King. The heightened security level was activated after Metropolitan Police officers arrested a man outside the a few days ago.
