Costa reflects on bib incident, Mourinho relationship, potential Atlético return

Diego CostaDiego Costa may have failed to score against Porto on Wednesday, but he still made his presence felt with good movement, good link-up play, provoking a couple yellow cards, and collecting one himself, too, for a silly little incident with Iker Casillas (“we just had a joke”).

All in a day’s work for Chelsea’s main striker.

Speaking of incidents, talking with Spanish radio after the match, Costa took responsibility for bib-gate from the Spurs match and claims that all is good between him and the Chelsea manager.

“The bib [incident] is in the past. I made a mistake, but my relationship with Mourinho is amazing, we get on really well. There are things you need to control, but the bib thing was an impulse.”

One thing he should be able to control is finishing and scoring goals, which, despite Mourinho’s praise, was an issue yesterday as well when he took just two shots.

“I have to improve a bit. The start of the season has not been good for me – not in how I have played nor in goals.”

“The truth is Chelsea haven’t been in a great moment, above all losing the other day at home (against Bournemouth). It was important to win (against Porto) to make the fans happy and to recover our confidence.”

“I know I have to be better to go to Euro 2016 with Spain. I have to work hard and fight, but I know I have time to improve and I hope I will.”

More goals would probably put an end to the Atlético return rumors as well.  Unlike the following words.
You never know, look where Filipe Luis is now.”

“Life is full of surprises – I always wish Atletico the best and I always follow them, support them from afar.”

Costa has well over 3 years left on his current contract; he’s not going anywhere.  Especially if he keeps helping Chelsea to long-over due wins.
