Court remands suspected killer of Niger village head

Justice Aisha Wodu of a Niger State High Court sitting in Suleja has remanded one Musa Ibrahim (aka Na-Allah Dagba) in the Suleja Custodial Centre for alleged murder.

Ibrahim is standing trial for his alleged involvement in the killing of Mohammed Abdulsafur, the village head of Lambata, in Gurara Local Council of Niger State.

The suspect had pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him by the state.

His offences are contrary to Sections 221 and 79 of the Penal Code.

He was in court following an order of the judge, after he was granted bail by a High Court sitting in Minna with the name Ibrahim Musa. Justice Wodu ordered that the suspect be produced by the surety who stood for him to face the charges, as he was identified in the murder of the village head of Lambata as Na-Allah Dagba.

Meanwhile, the judge granted bail to a co-accused, Basiru Mohammed, in the sum of N4 million. He was also required to provide a surety who is not less than a director in the civil service. The surety, the judge said, must be a property owner with a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) within the jurisdiction of the court.

The prosecuting counsel, Umar Hamidu, informed the court of his intention to file amended charges since some of the accused were still at large.

He also informed the court that the first and second accused persons: Iliya Hamza and Umar Sarki were not in court, as they were said to have been transferred to Kuje Custodial Centre.

According to him, they were transferred following the escape of some inmates in Suleja Custodial Centre after the collapse of some part of the facility.

Consequently, Justice Wodu adjourned till June 10 and 11 for hearing.
