Court reschedules ruling on Obong of Calabar stool for September 26

Justice Elias Abua of the Calabar High Court, has rescheduled his ruling on an interlocutory application filed by claimants in the renewed Obong of Calabar tussle.

The legal battle is between former finance minister, Anthony Ani, and the sitting Obong of Calabar, His Eminence, Etubom Ekpo Abasi Otu V.

The court had fixed yesterday for the ruling on the interlocutory application by the claimants in suit marked HC/278/2023, involving Etubom Essien Ekpenyong Efiok, Etubom Nyong Effiom Okon and Etubom Micah Archibong.

However, at yesterday’s session, the court rescheduled the ruling for September 26, 2024.

Since 2010, the stool of the Obong of Calabar has been a subject of legal battle between the sitting Obong, Abasi-Otu V, and former finance minister, Ani, up to the Supreme Court that ordered a re-selection of a new Obong.

Edidem Abasi-Otu V was duly re-selected and proclaimed as Obong of Calabar by the Etuboms’ Conclave in line with the Supreme Court judgment of January 2023.
