CP warns against electoral violence in Kwara, threatens application of law

Paul Odama
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Paul Odama, has promised full application of the law against political thugs trying to foment trouble in any part of the state during tomorrow’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Odama stated, yesterday, in Ilorin that the decision was premised on the directive from the Force Headquarters (FHQ), Abuja, to ensure hitch-free election all over the federation.

The police boss assured the residents of his men’s readiness to guarantee safety of life and property, before, during and after the polls. Rising from an emergency meeting with heads of security agencies, with the issue of peaceful election as the main agenda, security agencies were urged to work in synergy to provide adequate security for credible, peaceful and acceptable polls.

The CP said: “The command wishes to specially thank the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, for supplying the command with all necessary equipment, including pump action shotguns, long- and shotgun-range riot gunners, hand grenades, rubber bullets, smoke pistols, body armour, all in large numbers, as well as fuel and utility vehicles to make the election security-formidable.”

He warned that any person caught trying to undermine the resolve of the command to secure the process and conduct of the exercise would be met with the full wrath of the law.

“Citizens are advised to obey all relevant laws as they may be announced by the authorities, including any restriction on vehicular movement on the day of election,” he added.
