Estranged girlfriend allegedly stabs boyfriend to death in Ogun

RESIDENTS of Wasimi, a sleepy community, along Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway, in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State are yet to overcome the shock of the tragic murder of a Computer Science student of D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, who was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.
To them, such incident is saddening, pathetic and a setback, at this time when the community is intensifying efforts at attracting investors for the development of the area.

None of them, however, had any inkling that the peaceful atmosphere of the sunny afternoon of Tuesday, March 17, would be shattered with the tragic incident.
As at the time, most of them were outside the community in search of their daily bread, while a few others were at home, operating grocery and provision stores nearby, when a loud cry of grief rented the air.

As neighbours trooped towards the direction of the uproar, they discovered it was emanating from T.J. Hostel, residential apartment of students from the institution. On getting there, they were jolted to see the near-lifeless body of Moses Eric, who was allegedly killed by his girlfriend, Monsurat Yusuf, 22, an Islamic gospel singer, popularly known as Alhaja Saudi.

Though he was seen in the pool of his own blood, residents made frantic effort at reviving him but he had lost too much blood gushing from the deep hole in his left chest; before he sadly gave up the ghost.

The Guardian investigation reveals that the deceased, Eric and the suspect, who is studying Business Administration in the school, had parted ways as lovers, but they were still living together in the hostel, though in different rooms.

On the afternoon of that fateful day, they were both at home when a little squabble came up and the girl dashed into her room, brought out a knife and stabbed her ex-boyfriend on the chest. The cut was so deep that the deceased bled profusely and before help could come, he had lost so much blood, which eventually led to his death.

There were, however, two versions of the story as gathered by The Guardian. According to a version, the girl was already dating another man around the area and was already pregnant for him.
When Eric sensed this, he took another girlfriend to the discomfort of Monsurat, whom we learnt was always hurling abusive songs in Yoruba dialect on the deceased, whenever his new girlfriend visited.

On the tragic Tuesday at around past 12 noon, the girlfriend was around and Monsurat was said to have started her abusive lyrics again, the meaning of which his girlfriend interpreted to him because Eric didn’t understand the language.

He was said to have confronted her and the girl brought out the knife but with the intervention of hostel mates, Monsurat was led into her room threatening that if Eric was sure of himself he should come and confront her in her room, the guy did and in the process of struggling with the door, the knife in Monsurat’s hand pierced Eric’s chest, very close to his heart.

According to the second version, after the episode on the abusive songs, she rushed into her room, took a knife and went straight into Eric’s room and stabbed him.

Though nobody around the vicinity was willing to speak further on the issue, it was learnt that his body had been deposited in a morgue, while the girl is already in Police custody.

When the District Police Officer (DPO) of Ewekoro Police Command, Mr. Mohammed Abdullahi, was contacted, he confirmed the incident.
He said immediately the incident happened, they were alerted by the people in the community, which prompted her arrest before she escaped, adding that the matter was already with the State Criminal Investigation Department, Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran.
