Nigerian music megastar David Adeleke, better known as Davido, is putting his faith in a higher power as he sets his sights on the ultimate musical accolade: the Grammy Award. In a recent interview with GQ, Davido revealed that winning a Grammy is his daily prayer, a testament to his relentless ambition and the growing global stature of Afrobeats.
Davido’s Grammy aspirations come on the heels of a banner year for the artist. His fourth studio album, “Timeless,” racked up critical acclaim and commercial success, while his singles “Unavailable” and “Feel” earned him well-deserved nominations in the Best Global Music Performance and Best Global Music Album categories at the 2024 Grammy Awards.
“Everybody knows what one of my prayer points is now,” Davido declared in the interview. “I have been nominated for three Grammys. So, everybody knows what I am praying for every day I wake up.”
Davido’s Grammy quest reflects the meteoric rise of Afrobeats, a genre with roots in Nigeria and Ghana that has taken the world by storm.
