David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor. He was born on November 21, 1992 in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, to Nigerian parents Adedeji and Vero Adeleke. Davido is one of the most successful musician in Nigeria and Africa at large, with lot’s of good Songs and a net worth of over $20 million.

Early Life and Education

Davido’s father, Adedeji Adeleke, is a billionaire businessman and philanthropist who hails from Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. His mother, Vero Adeleke, was a university lecturer before her death in 2003. Davido grew up in both Nigeria and the United States, and attended the British International School in Lagos, Nigeria, before moving to Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, United States, to study Business Administration. However, he dropped out of university to pursue a career in music and returned to Nigeria in 2011.

Career

Davido began his music career in 2011, while still in university, and released his first single titled ‘Back When’ featuring Nigerian rapper Naeto C. The song was well-received and caught the attention of Nigerian music lovers and industry insiders. He followed up with the hit single ‘Dami Duro’, which became a nationwide anthem and cemented his place in the Nigerian music industry.

In 2012, Davido released his first studio album titled ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ which features hit songs like ‘Ekuro’, ‘All of You’ and ‘Gbon Gbon’. The album was a massive success and won him the Best Newcomer award at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Davido continued to release hit singles like ‘Skelewu’, ‘Aye’ and ‘Gobe’, and his popularity grew even more. He was signed to Sony Music Entertainment in 2016 and released his second studio album titled ‘A Good Time’ in 2019. The album features collaborations with international acts like Chris Brown, Popcaan, and Summer Walker, and has been well received by fans and critics alike. along side better times in 2021 ‘A Better Time,’ which was released in 2020 under the Timeless Music label. The album features collaborations with local and international artists such as Nicki Minaj, Chris Brown, Tiwa Savage, Lil Baby, and more.

‘A Better Time’ is said to be a reflection of Davido’s life experiences, and it features a mix of Afrobeat, Afropop, and Amapiano genres. The album’s themes range from love, family, friendship, life struggles, and success, among others. Some of the tracks in the album that gained huge popularity include ‘Fem,’ ‘Holy Ground,’ ‘Jowo,’ and ‘The Best.’

In 2020, Davido got engaged to his long-time girlfriend, Chioma Rowland, and the couple welcomed their first child together, David Ifeanyi Adeleke Jr. who died in year 2022.

Philanthropy

Davido is also known for his philanthropic work. He has established the Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) Foundation, which focuses on improving education, health, and youth empowerment in Nigeria. In 2020, he donated $500,000 to the COVID-19 relief fund in Nigeria and also donated personal protective equipment (PPE) to hospitals across the country.
