DELSU to honour Sam Oyovbaire, Aloamaka for serving humanity with distinction

Delta State University, Abraka will today honour former Minister for Information, Prof. Sam Ejite Oyovbaire with Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) and one of the best senior academics, Professor Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka as Emeritus Professor of the University.


The Vice chancellor Andy Egwunyenga who announced this, yesterday, said they were honour being distinguished Nigerians who have served this University and humanity with distinction over the years.

He stated that following their outstanding remarks, the authorities of the University, without hesitation, “approved this very deserving honour to be conferred on these distinguished Nigerians as part of the 16th convocations ceremony”.

The VC said Professor Sam Ejite Oyovbaire would be awarded Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) in recognition of specific services to Delta State University, the State and Nigeria.

Egwunyenga said Oyovbaire was chairman of the Governing Council of the University for Eight years, and before then, he was member of the governing council for over eight years which made him the longest- serving member of the governing council of Delta State University.


According to him, “Prof. Oyovbaire has been part of the university’s transformation in the last 20 years, and before then, he served this country as Minister for Information and is currently Chairman of the Delta State Peace Building and Advisory Committee, the position he has held for over eight years”.

For Professor Chukwuemeka Peter Aloamaka, the university will also honour him as Emeritus Professor of the university because he very much deserved it being one of the very best senior academics,

He described Aloamaka as a distinguished professor of Human Physiology with over 40 years experience in teaching, research and University administration.

According to the VC, Prof. Aloamaka was one time Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), and a highly respected Professor who contribution in mentoring and making other professors within The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences where he was both Head of Department and Dean
