Delta police arrest nine suspected cult members

NINE suspected members of the dreaded Aye Confraternity have been arrested by the police at different locations in Delta State in the last one week.

According to the Delta Police spokeswoman, Mrs. Celestina Kalu, operatives of the Quick Response Squad (QRS), Warri, who were on visibility patrol along Uti Street ,Warri arrested the two suspected cultists, Lucky Umukoro, 27 and Emmanuel Ola, 27, all of Ikekweri Otukutu in Ughelli South Local Council on Tuesday, July 7.

The spokeswoman said yesterday in Asaba that the suspects have confessed their membership of Aye confraternity while items recovered from them included one Aye confraternity vest, a bangle and cap with cowries.

In the same vein, Mrs. Kalu said that another QRS team while on patrol along Warri/Sapele road, by Water Board on Thursday, July 8 arrested another batch of three suspected cultists.

She gave their names as Ukulor Godwin, 20, of 31 Edun Street, off Jakpa Road, Warri, Onoriode Tukuru, 26, of New Layout Warri and Friday Okoroko, 29, of 19 Effurun/Sapele roads, Warri.

Three Aye confraternity black berets were recovered from them. Mrs. Kalu also said that 87 QRS operatives Warri arrested one Okwalogun Michael, 28, of 7 Nofoma Street Off Macdemot road, Warri at Bimos Hotel, along Airport Road, Warri in connection with cultism.

One black Aye confraternity beret was recovered from him. While two cultists, Ovoh John, 24, and a lady named Okotare Tracy were arrested by the special police squad following a tip-off, one black Aye confraternity beret was recovered from them. She said that investigations were still on, assuring that the suspects would be brought to justice.
