Dessers in Rangers u-turn as Ibrox giants win price war for Cremonese star

Dessers

Aribo may join Turkish club
Super Eagles’ fringe star, Cyriel Dessers, has joined Scottish giants, Rangers, after initially declining an approach from the Ibrox side.

According to dailyrecord.co.uk, the Cremonese star will join Rangers as the 2021/22 Europa League runners up have agreed a significant seven figure fee for the Nigerian international.

The report said Rangers were able to get the Italian side down on their ÂŁ6.5 million valuation. The 28-year-old is set to open talks with Rangers, have a medical and to seal his long-anticipated move to Scotland.

Rangers made their first bid for Dessers at the start of last month and followed up with several offers but Cremonese had played hardball on their prize asset.

The report said they were demanding the money they paid Genk last summer but in the end had to take a hit. The cards were stacked against Cremonese after their relegation from Serie A and the player made it clear he wanted to join Rangers.

It was then about trying to hold out for the best deal they could. There had been a bit of brinkmanship on both sides.

Meanwhile, Joe Aribo, who played a pivotal part in Rangers’ march to the Europa League final and in fact scored the opening goals in the title game against Eintracht Frankfurt, is subject of seral inquiries from Turkish sides.

Since Joe Aribo left Rangers last summer, things haven’t exactly gone to plan for him.

The Nigeria international left Ibrox around a year ago in a ÂŁ10million switch to Southampton.

Signed by Ralph Hasenhuttl, the attacking midfielder enjoyed a decent start to life as a Premier League player.

However, his game time was significantly reduced as the campaign went on, and when the Austrian was sacked. Nathan Jones and Ruben Selles both had brief spells in charge and still, Aribo was rarely seen.

Saints of course suffered relegation to the Championship after a dismal campaign.

Having made just 11 appearances in all competitions for Saints, Aribo could be on the lookout for a new challenge after only one season.

And that opening seem to be coming from Turkey as Takvim has reported that Besiktas are keen to offer Aribo a fresh start.

The 26-year-old could be sold for a cut-price fee to the Turkish giants, as new Southampton boss, Russell Martin, aims to raise funds for his transfer budget.

According to the report, Besiktas’ sports director, Ceyhun Kazanci, has travelled to England to conduct negotiations over a potential deal.
