Develop capacity for productivity, youths told

… Former Zambian VP, Ezigbo, others slated for Thinkation 2024 conference

Youths have been asked to take their place as leaders by activating their talents for socioeconomic, political and national development.Convener, Thinkation, Dr Unyime-Ivy King, said doing that would enable youths to develop entrepreneurial abilities, thereby creating opportunities that would be beneficial to their immediate environment, the larger community and boosting the nation’s GDP.

She gave the advice at a media conference, yesterday, ahead of Thinkation 2024, organised by Ubong King Foundation, themed: ‘Switch it on’, which will hold tomorrow, January 27. She stressed the need for young people to be weaned from a dependency mindset to become more productive.

“In Nigeria, for instance, the naira is highly devalued due to rising dollar exchange rate, and on the political scene, there’s been so much political tidal waves. On a daily basis, major events that disrupt the economic stability of the country and the world, at large, keep breaking out.
“It takes a lion heart for one to venture into entrepreneurship in Nigeria and beyond in the face of such debilitating circumstances.

“Africans, all over the world, are celebrated for being well educated and for high and excellent performances in the educational spheres, but sadly, a lot of her communities, remain impoverished and underdeveloped.”

According to King, a mind that has been trained to think critically is one that has been stretched and can take on challenging situations.

“THINKATION is a creative merger of THINKING + EDUCATION. We believe that thinking is the missing component in our young minds and businesses today and that is why we are painstakingly putting this event together to challenge parochial mindsets and provoke critical thinking processes,” she said.

She stated the importance of transcending education and infusing thinking to systems, adding the need to have the productive population of a nation well-groomed mentally to the point where they want to exceed the status quo that prevail in their surroundings, in order to attain their full potential in career, finance, health, business and relationships.

She noted that the conference would feature leadership-driven conversations with quick-hitting expert presentations, followed by in-depth discussions.

The Speakers include: Former VP of Zambia, Dr. Nevers Mumba; Deputy Managing Director, Falcon Corporation, Audrey Joe-Ezigbo; Consultant, Merignos-Consulting, Dr. Ugochukwu Omeogu; Consultant, Thistle Praxis Consulting, Ini Abimbola; Team Lead, Studio 24, Ifeanyi Oputa and Entrepreneur, Moses B. Arthur among others.
