An Abuja-based property developer, Messrs SOW Real Estate has urged governments to up-scale efforts at bridging existing housing gap in the country.
It urged the government to deploy new housing model that would provide decent housing for over 80 per cent of Nigerians who are living in poorly built houses.
The Managing Director of the firm, Uzor Onukwubiri, gave the charge at its 10 years anniversary celebration in Abuja. She expressed dismay that with population of over 200 million, only about 30 per cent of Nigerians have access to quality housing.
Onukwubiri said: “Housing is the second most essential basic needs of humanity outside food and its impact on the health, welfare and output of man is profound.
According to her, the country’s housing crisis is further worsened by low-income of most Nigerians, who cannot afford privately constructed houses, which are very expensive.
She assured subscribers that the firm’s housing project is of quality construction, adding “our housing schemes are overseen by a team of professionals consisting engineers, architects and others, who were chosen on the basis of excellent management, technical and entrepreneurial skills.”
Also speaking, the former Imo state governorship candidate, Linus Okorie, called for a reliable data bank and an enabling environment for the industry to attract foreign investors.
