First Features Project recently hosted a private screening of its thriller, Kill Boro, which is set to debut on Prime Video on April 12. The exclusive event held at Ebony Life Place, Lagos, featured some of Nollywood elite and socialites at an evening of cinematic excellence.

Kill Boro is a film depicting the harrowing story of Elijah played by Kosisochukwu Ogboruche, a young boy burdened by his father Boro’s played by Philip Asaya relentless brutality.

Directed by Courage Obayuwana, a protege of the First Features project, Kill Boro explores the complexities of family, survival, the consequences of choices, and the enduring possibility of redemption.

Other actors in the film include, Ini Dima-Okojie, Greg Ojefua, Hilda Dokubo, Beloved Osagie, Yibo Koko, among other stars. Speaking on his role as Elijah, Kosi said playing Elijah challenged him to push his limits as an actor. “Elijah is the rugged street boy, brilliant and strong-willed, driven by love, anger, and desperation for a better life. This role was emotional for me. I was captivated by the character because he was trying to protect his mother from his abusive father, leading him to make hard choices with dire consequences.”

For Dima-Okojie, who plays Boma (Elijah’s Mother), “my role as Boma explored the life of a mother torn between love, family conflict, domestic abuse, and sacrifice. While Philip Asaya who played Boro said, the troubled character battles his demons while on a quest for redemption. “The film portrays the negative impacts of family violence on the home and children in particular. I believe there are many lessons to be learnt from the life Boro lived.”

Obayuwana, who directed Kill Boro, noted that the film portrays the harsh realities faced by individuals residing in abusive households. “We often wonder why people stay in abusive relationships, and this story explores a little bit to see the inner mind of those who choose to stay in abusive homes and how it affects the children.”

Kill Boro is the fourth release from a slate of 12 films directed by the First Features Project proteges. The project, spearheaded by Nollywood veterans Dotun Olakunri and Steve Gukas, provides training, mentorship, and funding for the production of debut feature films by young Nollywood directors.
