Discover the will of God for you (26)

Some Basic characteristics of God’s will (Cont)

Getting drunk with wine is associated with the old way of life and its selfish desires. In Christ, we have a better joy, higher and long-lasting, to cure our depression, monotony or tension.

We should not be concerned with how much of the Holy Spirit we have, but how much of us the Holy Spirit has. Submit yourself daily to his leading and draw constantly on his power.
The Essence Of The Law

“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.13: And to keep the commandments of the Lord and His statutes which I command you today for your good?” (Deut 10:12,13)

Often we ask: “What does God expect of me?” Here Moses gives a summary that is simple in form and easy to remember. Here are the essentials:
• Fear God ( reverence for Him).
• Walk in all His ways.
• Love Him.
• Serve Him with all your heart and soul.
• Keep His commandments: How often we complicate faith with man-made rules, regulations, and requirements.

Are you frustrated and burned out from trying hard to please God? Concentrate on his real requirements and find peace. Respect, follow, love, serve, and obey God.

The Essence Of Pleasing God Is Doing The Will Of God
“He has shown you, o man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6:8)

People have tried all kinds of ways to please God (6:6,7), but God has made His wishes clear: He wants His people to be just, merciful, and to walk humbly with Him. In your efforts to please God, examine these areas on a regular basis.

Are you fair in your dealing with people? Do you show mercy to those who wrong you? Are you learning humility?

“What does the Lord require of you…?” Micah gives a threefold definition of what God’s standard of goodness and what our commitment to Him involve:
i. We must act justly that is be fair and honest in our dealings with others (cf. Mat 7:12). ii. we must love mercy, i.e., show genuine compassion and mercy to individuals in need. iii. we must walk humbly with our God that is humble ourselves daily before Him in godly fear and reverence for His will (cf. Jas 4:6-10; 1Pet 5:5-6).

Public worship is only a small part of our total commitment to Jesus Christ. A genuine love for the Lord must manifest itself in an abiding concern for people in need. Read Mat 25:31-46.
