The clean girl “no makeup” makeup look has been all the rage for the past few years. Its signature no foundation, only highlighter and a tiny blush look is so played out. It’s time to switch things up with a new look that features bolder colours, more highlighter, and dramatic lashes. Ditch the no-makeup look and experiment with high glam.

High-glam looks are all about drama and glamour. They’re perfect for special occasions, nights out, or anytime you want to feel extra fabulous.

If you’re not used to wearing high-glam, don’t worry. It’s easier than you think to create a stunning look. Here are a few tips:

1. Don’t be afraid to experiment

A common thing that plagues people from trying out new makeup styles is the fear of not getting the application right. But there are no rules when it comes to high-glam makeup. So experiment with different colours, textures, and finishes until you find a look you love. You can always practice at home in front of a mirror or ask your friends for a review of a new look you’re trying out.

2. Gather inspiration

Beauty inspiration is endless. You can look through magazines, websites, and social media for inspiration. Let celebrities, makeup artists and influencers be your first searches. Save pictures of looks that you like, and use them as a reference when you’re creating your looks.

3. Watch tutorials

The age-old method of learning makeup still stands true today. If you want to try out high-glam, it’s best to watch tutorials on YouTube and TikTok for detailed guidance. Watching tutorials can help you learn how to create different looks, and they can also give you tips on how to apply makeup correctly. And remember, practice makes perfect.

4. Start small

If you’re not used to wearing a high-glam look, but you’re open to the idea of transitioning, start small. You don’t have to get it right and do it all at once. Add one or two new elements to your makeup routine each time you do it. A bolder eyeshadow colour here, a more dramatic eyeliner look there, and a classic red lip occasionally can make you get the hang of it.

5. Have fun!

Makeup is all about expressing yourself. So have fun with it and don’t be afraid to experiment. Like the late makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin said, “I’m not saying that putting on makeup will change the world or even your life, but it can be a first step in learning things about yourself you may never have discovered otherwise. At worst, you could make a big mess and have a good laugh.” So don’t take yourself too seriously.
