Kano State Police Command has declared that, henceforth, inquiry on Alhassan Doguwa’s alleged murder trial should be channelled to state government, as the police has completed investigation and handed over the case file accordingly.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, made the clarification through an official joint media/police platform. National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Prof. Rufai Alkali, had flayed the command for not doing enough to bring the House of Representatives Majority Leader, to justice over his alleged role in the attack on NNPP supporters in Kano.
Alkali said: “It is regretted that the lawmaker, who was allegedly seen on a viral video with a shotgun, shooting at NNPP supporters, and instigating attacks on the party’s facility in the state, is still walking the street as a free man.”
He added that while relevant authorities were reportedly still investigating the incident, the police were carrying on its activities as if human lives don’t matter anymore in the country.
Apparently reacting to Alkali’s claim, Kiyawa urged the public to endeavour to seek detailed cross-examination on issues of concern before reaching conclusion, especially on matters that border on integrity of the police.
The police spokesperson added that Doguwa was arrested and arraigned, while his alleged criminal case file was handed over to the state after legal advice.
