Don Nkem tees off campaign for Imo International Film Festival

The unveiling of maiden edition of theĀ  Imo International Film Festival (IIFF) marks the commencement of preparation leading to the hosting of the festival, which is scheduled to hold in Owerri, Imo State between July 25 and 27. Founded by Don Chikezie Nkemdirim and promoted as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and networking opportunities, the colourful and well-attended unveiling ceremony held at Havana Cinemas, new Owerri, Imo State and it attracted dignitaries such as the Director of Art and Culture Mrs. Assumpta Akujobi, formost filmmaker Amayo-Uzo Phillips, Zion Nwaigwe, representative ofĀ the Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) and South East coordinator of the NFVCB, Hubert Odeh, GM of Havana Cinemas, Management and staff of NTA, Director KKD and other stakeholders.


While performing the unveiling ceremony, the Executive Director of the NFVCB remarked that beyond the platform it provides for celebration of the art of filmmaking, film festivals have become a veritable platform for movie distributions. ā€œAs regulators of the distribution business in Nigeria, the NFVCB will encourage the growth of festivals such as the Imo International Film Festival (IIFF) that emphasises the potential of filmmaking for economic empowerment,ā€ the NFVCB ED said.

Earlier, founder of the festival and notable marketer Don Nkems had announced the theme for the maiden edition as Ā‘ā€™Film: A veritable Tool For Economic Empowermentā€™. He also stated that through a carefully curated program of workshops, screenings, and networking events, the festival will showcase the immense talent and diverse perspectives within the film industry.
