The Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Jerry Orhue, has charged the government to increase funding in research institutes and universities for the development of the continent, He also frowned at the huge sums expended in importing natural products from China and India, saying it is unjustifiable.
The university don, while calling on the government to take urgent steps to reverse the trend, said monies saved from such imports could be channelled into the development of other sectors.
Orhue made the call while delivering the 285th inaugural Lecture series of the University of Benin entitled, ” Religion, Science and Tradition: A Tale of Conflict and Harmony,” held at the institution’s Ugbowo Campus in Benin City, Edo State.
