Don urges government to exhibit transformational leadership

To address vices among youths, Rector, Ronik Polytechnic, Ejigbo, Lagos, Mrs.Julianah Atoye, has urged the government at all levels to exhibit exemplary leadership.

In an interview with The Guardian at the 16thmatriculation of the institution, Atoye identified the leadership gap as one of the challenges confronting the country.

According to her, the government should exhibit leadership by example. “Youths should be able to emulate public officeholders. They should also make infrastructure available and must not frustrate the youths. They should provide jobs and make start-up capital available for fresh graduates that may want to go into business,” she said.

While addressing the students, she described polytechnic as a major centre for economic development that could produce nationally relevant manpower, ranging from craftsmen, technologists, engineers, technocrats, and scientists.

She also appealed to the government to make TEFund available for private institutions.

“We are also training Nigerians. We are making our own contribution to the development of education,” Atoye said.

She urged the matriculating students to acquire entrepreneurial skills so that they could be job creators instead of job seekers.

In his address, Council Chairman, Rufus Odunsi, urged the students to eschew vices that could jeopardise their future.

Speaking on the topic: “Make your light shine,” Odunsi cautioned the students to avoid falling into the temptation of drug addiction, gambling, internet fraud and cultism that have permeated the daily affairs of the youths.
