Following the alleged sharp practices by marketers of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in Kano State, the Department for Petroleum Resources (DPR) has closed down 39 filling stations amid the shortage hitting the State in the last few weeks.

DPR swung into action as a result of complaints from members of the public concerning filling stations, which involved in hoarding and sales of PMS above the official pump price within the metropolis.

Office Controller of DPR in Kano, Isa Tafida told The Guardian that his department has placed a fine of N100,000 each on all erring stations during his operation.

“We received complaints from members of the public that some filling stations in the state were selling PMS at price above the official pump price,” he disclosed.

When asked of the possibility of selling product freely to consumers, from any station found guilty of hoarding the product; Tafida insisted that his department must confirm the allegation before resolving to such penalty.
