‘Due Diligence Is Imperative Before Migrating’

Maggie Offoha

American based author and scientist, Mrs. Maggie Offoha, has underscored the need for due diligence before migrating abroad. She explained that most times there is a lot lost when people relocate overseas, stating that children are often caught between two cultures, unsure of their identity.

Speaking at the launch of her three books in Lagos: a book of poetry called, ‘Poetry for Thought’; a novel, ‘Return to Where I Belong’ and a book of short stories ‘Dark Shadows on my Path’, Offoha stressed the need for a reading culture in Africa, observing that foreigners are writing African history, which shouldn’t be.

Offoha said the three of books were written within six months, adding that the novel is a story about her family but speaks to a wide audience.

“The book on short stories contains stories of police brutality, a biafra child, experiences of immigrants and others,” she added. The book reviewer, Bonny Amadi, said that by reading the books, one would be better equipped to be leaders based on family and society positions.

According to him, poetry created vivid images and invoked strong motivating emotions in readers minds to trigger a developmental campaign or positive life transforming actions.

“The novel speaks to the great efforts of many immigrants including African-Americans who have worked tirelessly to identify with their roots,” he added.
