The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA), says the authority will deploy men and materials during the Easter celebration to manage traffic incidences in the state.
The General Manager, LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
“Our plan for the festive holiday is for Lagosians especially the motoring public to have seamless movement from point A to B.
“And majorly, we will be deploying men and materials to achieve this major aim. Our men will be positioned in every nook and cranny of the state, likewise our materials too.
“We have tow trucks that will be positioned at major routes and transit points, so that whenever we have issues like breakdown or require traffic incident management, we can use them, we would also deploy tow vans for smaller vehicles and cars,” he said.
The LASTMA boss noted that the authority would deploy equipment to strategic locations in order to redirect or manage traffic whenever the need arises.
“These equipment, our cones, traffic barrier, safety barrier and others will be deployed majorly for Lagosians to have a seamless movement in the state, especially during the holidays starting from tomorrow (Friday),” he said.
Bakare-Oki noted that the organisation had taken cognisance of places in Lagos State that witnessed large gatherings during festive seasons and deployed officials to manage any congestion, whenever the need arose at different locations.
He urged the public to note that there were massive road construction ongoing in different locations in the state, adding that the authority had given all these areas priority.
He also pointed out that this was to mitigate or manage any traffic challenge that would affect travel time of motorists.
“Our men will be in position, from Friday, Saturday through to Monday and every other day and by extension too, we are equally preparing for the end of Ramadan celebration for Moslem faithful that will come up in two weeks,” he said.
He advised the motoring public to obey all traffic rules and regulations, as well as traffic officers, especially LASTMA personnel on the road.
“Basically, we are on the road to improve travel time for Lagosians.
“Also, when they go about enjoying themselves as a result of the celebration, whenever they drink, they should not drive. Safety is key and paramount at all times,” he said.
