Ed Sheeran’s concert at Acrisure Stadium turned up the heat, both figuratively and literally, as the temperature soared to a scorching 30.5°C.
Unfortunately, the blazing conditions took a toll on fans and workers alike, with 17 people being rushed to the hospital for heat-related illnesses.
According to a press release from Pittsburgh’s Public Safety Department, EMS personnel received a staggering 37 calls for service during the show, leading to 17 hospital transports. Cara Cruz, the city’s information officer, confirmed that all transports were related to heat issues, including falls, a seizure, and two cases of cardiac arrest.
It’s essential to note that the cardiac arrest incidents were not among the concertgoers. One occurred when a worker involved in the stadium setup went into cardiac arrest, while the other affected a paramedic from an external agency.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Ed Sheeran, the 31-year-old hitmaker, showed no signs of slowing down during his performance. Recently, in Detroit, he treated fans to a memorable surprise by inviting none other than Eminem, the legendary rapper, on stage.
Clad in his signature hoodie and jeans, Eminem joined Ed to perform his hit song “Lose Yourself,” sending the crowd into a frenzy. The duo didn’t stop there, though; they went on to perform another hit, Eminem’s iconic track “Stan.”
Teasing the thrilled audience, Ed playfully said, “He was gonna come on and do one song and I said, ‘You can’t come on in Detroit and just do one song.'” Of course, the crowd was eager for more, and Ed asked them if they wanted another song before launching into “Stan,” with him taking on verses originally sung by Dido.
The surprise performance left the audience ecstatic, and Eminem took a moment to express his gratitude to the crowd, saying, “I appreciate you, Detroit. I love you!”
