Edo 2024: Edo people to decide guber election, not godfathers, says Osifo

Dr. Isaiah Osifo

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship Candidate in Edo State, Dr. Isaiah Osifo, yesterday, said the next government of Edo State will be rooted on knowledge and democracy, and to be decided by people of the state who will draw a distinction between candidates and political parties.

Osifo disclosed this in a statement titled, ‘Colonialism And Edo 2024,’ made available to newsmen in Benin, after he emerged the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the September 21 Edo governorship election. Describing the battle for the soul of Edo as one that would be fought and lost between Edo people and the political godfathers.

Osifo said: “Colonialism was rooted on two evil grounds – arrogance of superiority over people of the colonies, and the clear intention of the colonial masters to steal the resources of the colony.

“At the commencement of the campaigns in April, the people of Edo State drew a distinction between candidates, as well as political parties that are rooted in colonialism and those that are in politics to serve and return Edo to true democracy and development.

“Neo colonialism is an aspiration to govern a people and communities that you don’t know and you don’t live with.

“The supporters of neo-colonialism know that it is a wrong agenda, but they do so for personal material gains or poverty.”
