The Labour Party (LP) faction led by Lamidi Apapa has forwarded the name of its governorship candidate for Edo State to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The LP faction named Anderson Uwadiae Asemota as its candidates for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

This announcement comes amidst an internal dispute within the LP, with another faction led by Julius Abure having declared Olumide Akpata as its candidate on Friday.

The Apapa-led faction, in a statement on Saturday signed by the national chairman, Lamidi Apapa, named Asemota as its gubernatorial candidate and Monday Ojore Mawah as his running mate.

“We write to submit the names of our candidates that emerges from our Governorship primary election conducted today in Benin Edo State,” the LP faction said in a letter to INEC.

“You will recalled that we had earlier notify the Commission about the conduct of our Party Governorship Primary today and we hereby forward the names of our Party flag bearer for the September 21, 2024 Governorship Election.”
