Edo 2024: Oshiomhole working for PDP’s Ighodalo to win poll, APC chieftain alleges

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki (left), and Senator representing Edo North Senatorial District and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, during the 2023 Alaghodaro Investment Summit held as part of celebration of the seventh year anniversary of the Obaseki-led administration in Benin, Edo State.

Former Governor of Edo State and Senator representing Edo North senatorial district, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has been accused of working behind the scenes to make the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) win the governorship election in the September 2024 election in Edo.

A retired police commissioner and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Chief Osato Iredia, made the allegation to newsmen in Abuja yesterday claiming that there was a bond among Adams Oshiomhole, Governor Godwin Obaseki and Asuen Ighodalo, the anointed candidate of the governor in PDP to rule Edo one after the other.
The APC leader in Oredo local government area said he was not surprised that Oshiomhole was imposing an unpopular candidate in the person of Dennis Idahosa from Edo south, on the party at this time when it was not justifiable.
He added that Oshiomhole’s idea was to present a weaker APC governorship candidate against PDP’s Ighodalo so that the later could win the election easily.

“If Governor Obaseki had not left the APC, Asuen, who is the governorship candidate of PDP in waiting would have been the candidate of APC. Remember how Obaseki left APC? He left with their Lagos friends to PDP.”
The APC chieftain also called on President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of APC to disregard the Governor Hope Uzodinma result that declared Idahosa as the governorship candidate of APC if the party was serious to win the September election.
Iredia said: “Oshiomhole from Edo north, Obaseki from Edo south and Ighodalo from Edo central want to complete the circle in 2024 as they planned it many years ago.”

He added that “the people of Edo across the three senatorial districts are in consonant with zoning except for Oshiomhole himself who kept encouraging aspirants from across the state to join the race.”
The only way the party can win the governorship election in September is to adhere to the APC primaries that produced Senator Monday Okpebholo from Edo central.
Tension have continued to build in APC in Edo state after last weekend’s governorship primaries which produced three candidates, with Senator Oshiomhole being fingered for imposing a candidate on the party against the principle of zoning.
