• Tasks journalists to wear identification jackets, cards

The Edo State Police Command, yesterday, expressed readiness to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free delegate election across the two political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which would be holding their primary elections to choose their governorship candidates today in Edo State.

The police authority also appealed to all media operatives covering the delegate elections to wear identification jackets and cards for their personal safety.

The Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, stated this, yesterday, in his office, while briefing journalists on the preparedness of the Command ahead of tomorrow’s primary elections.

He noted that acts of violence would not be tolerated in the state, as a result of political activities, saying: “This time around, we are not going to view it as party affairs. We are going to view it very seriously to ensure that the right thing is done, and that the life and property of these party members are protected.”

Commenting further on arrangements and deployment of operatives for the exercise, the Edo police spokesman said the Command is working with sister security agencies to ensure that it does well during the exercise. He however warned the participating political parties and their delegates to be of good behavior and conduct themselves in lawful manners.
