Edo assembly members serve Shaibu impeachment notice

Edo Assembly members have served Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu, impeachment notice.

Majority leader, Charity Aiguobarueghian, announced the impeachment notice during plenary.

Charity Aiguobarueghian said the petition dated March 5, was signed by 21 out of the 24 members against Shaibu.

“The petition against the deputy governor came in on March 5 and was signed by 21 out of the 24 members,” the Majority leader said.

“The number of members who signed the petition was more than the two-third requirement stipulated in the constitution.”

Meanwhile, Shaibu, a former member of the House of Representatives, ex-Majority was given seven days to respond to allegations levelled against him.

The impeachment notice is the latest in the rift between Edo governor, Godwin Obaseki and Shaibu.

Both men have been at loggerheads since last year when Shaibu announced his intention to run for the office of the governor of the state.
