Edo poly hosts NBTE accreditation team

Edo State Polytechnic in Usen has received a team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for institutional and academic programme accreditation.  

Acting Rector of the Polytechnic, Sylvester Omoruyi, who addressed the NBTE accreditation team at the Polytechnic Chambers, thanked Governor Godwin Obaseki for his support and commitment to ensuring the stabilisation of the institution and the accreditation of its academic programmes at the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels.


Omoruyi also noted that the management of the institution prioritises accreditation of its academic programmes and has made the necessary interventions in the procurement of all basic equipment and necessary facility upgrade to meet NBTE’s requirement for institutional accreditation and other programmes scheduled for accreditation. 

NBTE Zonal Director, South-South and accreditation team leader, Dr. Musa Hatim Koko, acknowledged the progress made at the polytechnic since their previous visit.

He noted that the visiting team comprised officials of NBTE and experts in vocational and academic fields, drawn from various institutions, who will assess the facilities for the programmes scheduled for accreditation.

According to him, the accreditation exercise is in three phases, which include institution accreditation, resource accreditation and resource visitation.

The departments scheduled for accreditation are National Diploma programmes in Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Welding and Fabrication, Computer Engineering Technology, Estate Management, Surveying and Geo–informatics, and Urban and Regional Planning.

The accreditation exercise runs from Monday, January 9 to 13.
