The Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Edo State have lamented the ugly conditions they currently go through in the state, calling on the state government for inclusive and sustainable programmes and policies to uplift their living conditions.

Under the umbrella of the Edo State Disability Forum (EDF), they solicited the support of the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki on the provision of monthly stipends and food palliatives, among others to mitigate the challenges they passed through since the removal of fuel subsidy.

Convener, EDF, Melody Omosah, made the call in Benin, during a courtesy call to Obaseki at the government house.

Omosah, who is also the Executive Director, the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disability (NAPVID), lamented the ugly conditions of the PWDs in the state, advocating that policymakers, stakeholders and the public should rally behind the course of PWDs and take collective action to ensure that no one is left behind in the wake of the changes.

Omosah, while stressing that the removal of fuel subsidy and the hardship in the country have adversely affected them in the state, called on the Obaseki-led administration for inclusive and sustainable programmes and policies to mitigate the impact of fuel subsidy removal on them.

Responding, Obaseki, who was represented by Political Assistant to the Chief of Staff, Ogie Ogedegbe, said the state government was committed to ensuring the development and well-being of PWDs in the state.

He said that the Obaseki-led administration was not unmindful of their predicament and assured that necessary action that would positively impact PWDs would be considered to improve their living conditions.
