Over 300 workers benefit from LASUBEB’s health check

In its efforts to promote a healthy workforce, the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (LASUBEB) has concluded this year’s health checks with over 300 staff members benefiting from a free Full Blood Count (FBC) test.

The two-day event featured free blood pressure checks, glucose screening, and full blood count testing as part of the agency’s broader strategy to promote and sustain the well-being of staff within the basic education sector.

The workers also participated in a health awareness walk, further reinforcing the importance of physical fitness and overall wellness.

Speaking at the event, LASUBEB Chairman, Dr Hakeem Shittu, said this year’s focus on blood count aims to demystify its crucial role in modern healthcare.

He noted that regular blood tests are among the most effective tools in early detection and prevention of serious ailments such as anaemia, infections, immune system disorders, and even blood cancers.

He assured the state government’s commitment to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of its workforce, especially in the basic education sub-sector.

“Too often, we wait until symptoms become severe before seeking help, but prevention is not to be denied. What flows through us sustains our life. We must commit to routine health checks as part of our daily wellness culture,” Shittu stated.

A medical consultant from Afriglobal Medicare Limited, Dr John Kolawole, who was the guest speaker, educated workers on the importance of the full blood count as a diagnostic tool and stressed that many life-threatening conditions can be detected early through routine screening.

While highlighting the importance of early detection of anaemia, Kolawole emphasised that blood is the foundation of one’s strength and vitality.

He advised that maintaining healthy blood involves a combination of lifestyle choices, including eating iron-rich foods, staying physically active, managing stress effectively, and undergoing regular medical check-ups.

The Board Secretary, Mr Akeem Lamidi, while commending Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his inclusive quality education and the well-being of the state workforce, enjoined the workers to take full advantage of the opportunity provided.
