The Oyo State Government, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), and TotalEnergies Upstream Nigeria Limited (TUPNI) have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting education as a catalyst for national development.
The pledge was made during the commissioning of a model secondary school block donated by NNPCL, TUPNI, and their partners to Ogbomoso Grammar School, Oyo State.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of TUPNI, Matthieu Bouyer—represented by Lucky Dekoor, Manager of Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy and Performance at TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited—said the company would continue to invest in education to reduce the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria.
“This programme is inspired by the desire for quality education. Improving access and quality will lead to better outcomes and reduce the number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. It aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal on education. We will continue to invest heavily in initiatives that boost learning in the country,” Bouyer stated.
Also speaking, NNPCL’s Head of Business Services (NUIMS), Nkechi Anaedobe, said the facility represents the company’s enduring commitment to education and community development.
“This facility reflects our dedication to supporting education and enhancing the learning experience for students. It will have a lasting impact on this community,” she said.
In her remarks, the Principal of Ogbomoso Grammar School, Dr. Tolani Adewunmi, commended the donors, describing education as the key to changing the world, driving economic growth, nation-building, and reconciliation.
The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola—represented by Dr. Paul Dele Oyedokun, Education Inspector for Ogbomoso Zone—thanked the donors and pledged that the state government would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to secure a better future for children.
The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, represented by the Aare-Ago of Ogbomoso, High Chief Sobalaje Otolorin, also expressed gratitude, describing the project as a catalyst for improved learning.
Former NNPC Group General Manager of Human Resources, Mrs. Oyeyemi Ladipo, urged students and teachers to make proper use of the facility to achieve its intended impact.
