The Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP) has given the Federal Government a 21-day ultimatum to address lingering issues affecting its members or face a nationwide industrial action.
The ultimatum was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s 77th General Executive Council (GEC) meeting, held at the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Danbatta, Kano State.
Signed by the National President, Comrade Philip Ogunsipe, and National Secretary, Comrade Shehu Gaya, the communiqué accused the government of insincerity and neglect in implementing agreements reached with the union, particularly those concerning the welfare of polytechnic staff.
SSANIP listed the unresolved issues to include the release of new schemes and conditions of service, constitution of a committee to renegotiate the 2010 agreement, and non-release of the 2023, 2024, and 2025 NEEDS Assessment funds.
Others are payment of arrears, including promotion arrears, 25/35 per cent salary review arrears, wage awards, and full implementation of the new minimum wage.
The association lamented that despite several attempts at dialogue, the government has failed to take concrete steps, opting instead for what it described as “lip service” to the plight of polytechnic workers.
It warned that unless the listed demands are met within 21 days, effective August 27, 2025, SSANIP would be compelled to withdraw its services across all polytechnics in the country.
“The union can no longer continue to watch while the government treats polytechnic education with levity. If nothing is done within the given timeline, we will have no choice but to embark on industrial action,” the communiqué stated.
