SSCE pass rate rose in Gombe under my watch – Inuwa

Gombe State has recorded a significant improvement in secondary school students’ performance in national examinations.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya made this claim in a media broadcast on the occasion of his six-year anniversary in office on Thursday.

According to him, the pass rate for students who scored a minimum of five credits, including English and Mathematics, has increased dramatically under his administration.

“The pass rate has risen from 22% in 2019 to an impressive 76% in 2024. This remarkable achievement is attributed to the administration’s comprehensive education reforms, which include: construction and renovation of classrooms, with over 1,600 classrooms constructed or renovated in 350 schools.

“More than 1,000 qualified teachers have been recruited to enhance learning outcomes. The reintroduction of mandatory mock examinations has ensured academic excellence and value-for-money,” he explained.

Inuwa stated that another significant education reform by his administration was bringing over 350,000 out-of-school children into formal education through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme and transforming five legacy schools into state-of-the-art Mega Colleges, among others.
