Stakeholders strategise for teachers’ conference in Lagos

School leaders, educators and key stakeholders in the sector recently met in Lagos to strategise ahead of the landmark ‘Let there be teachers’ conference scheduled for September 20.

The meeting, which brought together members of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Nigeria Union of Teachers, and other stakeholders, focused on school growth, sustainability, and final plans to mobilise 60,000 teachers for a Guinness World Record attempt at the conference.

‎The convener, Seyi Anifowose, said the conference was to reposition and restore value to the teaching profession.

“It is about repositioning and repurposing the teaching profession. Teachers are not just employees; they are co- visioners, co-labourers, and major leaders alongside school owners,” he said.
‎.
Besides, he noted that the conference was to provide a platform for solutions to the challenges facing the profession.

Education consultant, Rotimi Eyitayo, advised school owners to focus on building vision-driven teams rather than merely filling vacancies.
‎ ‎
He also enjoined them to participate in high-level summits for exposure and growth.

“Every school owner or leader must attend conferences like the Nigerian Economic Summit. It may be expensive for some, but it is an investment for others,” he added.

On his part, the co-founder of 1 Million Teachers (1MT), Dr Hakeem Subair, reminded of the central role of teachers in nation-building, emphasising the need to pay more attention to their issues.
