Fake BDC operators

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday said it arrested 13 fake Bureau-de-Change (BDC) operators in Lagos State.

EFCC, in a statement on its official X handle, @officialEFCC, said the suspects were arrested for operating BDCs without appropriate licences.

The suspects, according to the anti-graft agency, are Abdulahi Musa, Garba Abdullahi, Dauda Hussaini, Jubril Musa, Abdulwaheed Iliyasu and Abubakar Mohammed.

Others, the EFCC added, are Umar Saidu, Nurudeen AbdulAzeez, Hamidu Usman, Yusuf Isa, Musa Ishaka, Liman Makki and Idris Mohammed.

EFCC revealed that the suspects were apprehended during sting operations conducted between May 10 and 13, 2024, at different parts of Lagos.

The arrests follow “credible intelligence” reports received by the Commission regarding their unlicensed foreign currency exchange activities, the statement said.

EFCC also said it arrested one woman named Kafayat Lateef, suspected of being a currency racketeer.

Lateef is accused of involvement in the illegal sale of naira notes in various denominations.

EFCC said it recovered N2.1 million from her at the time of her arrest.
