Confirming his arrest, the spokesperson of the commission, Dele Oyewale, said Bobrisky was arrested for currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira.

“He is with us. We arrested him over currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira. He is in our facility in Lagos state,” Oyewale added.

He said that Bobrisky would be charged in court soon.

Bobrisky, a male crossdresser, who identifies as a female, has been in the news recently after he received the award for the “best dressed female” at a movie premiere.

He reportedly “stole” the show on the red carpet at the Lagos premiere of “Ajanaku: Beast of Two Worlds” on Sunday, March 25th.

Controversial Afrobeat star Portable accused Bobrisky of betraying ‘brotherhood’ by identifying as an “artificial” woman.

Portable thereafter recorded a diss track against Bobrisky and said it was disheartening that children would try to emulate Bobrisky.

Eniola Ajao, the producer of ‘BEAST OF TWO WORLDS “AJAKAJU,” later apolised over the award given to Bobrisky.

Amid calls for the police to arrest Bobrisky for “immoral” appearance and identifying as a woman, Nigeria police spokesman on Tuesday said there is no law in Nigeria that prohibits crossdressing.

“Well, there are some cases that are always very difficult to prove. Fine, I am not ruling out that we have many of them. Let us be reasonable, you can’t have someone you want to prosecute without having credible evidences against them,” Adejobi said on Channels TV.

“I have not read anywhere where crossdressing is an offence in Nigeria. But if you, for instance, you want to prove a case of rape, rape has points to prove. If any one of those points is missing, you may lose your case in court.

“Let us be reasonable, you can’t arrest somebody you want to prosecute without having credible evidence against and as such, cross dressing is not a crime yet in Nigeria.”
