EFCC raids ‘Yahoo Academy’, arrests 14 students


The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raided a suspected training center popularly known as “Yahoo Academy,” for training aspiring internet fraudsters in Makurdi, Benue State.


EFCC said, in a statement, that the raid was carried out by its operatives of the Makurdi Zonal Command on Wednesday.

The anti-graft agency stated that 14 students, believed to be aspiring internet fraudsters, were apprehended during the operation at a three-bedroom apartment.


“The operatives, acting on intelligence, arrested the suspects in a three-bedroom apartment allegedly serving as a training centre for internet fraud trainees along Achusa Road, Makurdi,” EFCC added.

EFCC also disclosed that its officers recovered laptops, ATM cards, phones, one Firman Generator and a Toyota Corolla car.


The arrested individuals, as identified by EFCC, are Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter,Nyoosu Terungwa,John Kator, Udi Micheal Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel and Samuel Lubem.

Others include: Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin and Abechi Toryila.

EFCC, however, disclosed that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded
