Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos on Monday urged residents to remain calm as they await official release of the March 28 Presidential and National Assembly elections results.

Addressing journalists in Ikeja, Fashola decried the impression created in some quarters that there was tension in the state, urging people to go about their normal businesses.

The governor explained that the reports being peddled around on social media that he had asked workers to close early over security concerns were misleading.

“I didn’t issue the statement, and in almost eight years, I have never issued a directive, as far as government work is concerned, through social media.

“Things like work-free day, security issues have never been issued by me through social media.

“Rather, we have always resorted to making broadcast in person or I ask the Head of Service to issue circular.

“Or, I ask the Commissioner for Information and Strategy to make announcement through the state broadcast stations,” he said.

The governor said he understood that there was anxiety as far as the elections were concerned.

He urged residents not to yield to the antics of those planning to cause tension with the situation.

Fashola commended the residents for comporting themselves peacefully during the elections, urging them to show the same attitude in the other elections.
