Business mogul, Tony Elumelu, said that he is evaluating the viability of buying or acquiring one of the clubs in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).

Elumelu made this disclosure on Monday in a post on his X handle, revealing that the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Senator John Owan-Enoh has also approached him and other top investors to buy or acquire at least one big NPFL club.

“This is a nice idea. The Sports Minister, Senator John Enoh @OwanEnoh, is already thinking along this line and has approached me and we are already evaluating viability,” he said.

There have been suggestions in recent times that President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry of Sports should weigh in on the big corporate organisations in Nigeria to buy at least one league club as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Sports enthusiasts mooted the idea of Alhaji Aliko Dangote buying Kano Pillars, BUA Cement owner, Abdul Samad Rabiu acquiring Kwara United, Elumelu taking over Rivers United and Femi Otedola buying Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

They feel it would help boost the development of football in Nigeria as the players would be paid well while the Nigerian Premier Football League would become more competitive.
