Embarrassing Fashion Moments? OOPS!

Ladies narrate their most embarrassing fashion moments

Many of us have experienced at least one incident when either our clothes or footwear decided to act up and embarrass us. It could be that moment when you hear the sound of your dress ripping in public, or the zipper decides to “rain on your parade” by refusing to go up. This moment is what we officially call a wardrobe malfunction.

Wardrobe malfunction is an incident no one prays to experience, because, like the rain, it’s difficult to predict when it is going to happen. And when it happens, you cannot help but feel embarrassed, wishing the ground would swallow you up. The beauty of this unfortunate incident is that a few weeks or years later when you look back, you will laugh at the memory of it.

In this article, we asked some of our readers to share their most embarrassing wardrobe malfunction incidents.

Trendsetter to the stars

The most embarrassing fashion moment? I have a lot. There was a time I wore a green top and mom jeans, a purple scarf as a belt, and orange sneakers. As if my colour riot wasn’t embarrassing enough, I overslept on the day I had an 8 am lecture. In a rush, I mistakenly wore the back of my leggings and didn’t notice on time, until it was too late. I had to walk with confidence, and when someone commented on it, I told them that was the style – Miracle

Not another torn story

There was a day I decided to try something new, so I wore a tight just-below-the-knees skirt to campus. With the mantra “You cannot kill my vibes” ringing in my head, I walked proudly towards the main road. I then noticed a man lying down on a bench who kept staring at my skirt. It was obvious something was wrong, but I didn’t grab it. As I entered a bus going to school, boom! I saw it. My skirt was torn. It all made sense why that man kept staring at me. Panic rolled in with different thoughts running through my head as I began to sweat profusely. I knew I could just ask the driver to stop the bus, get down, and go back home to change. But my village people had a different plan in their minds.

Long story short, I arrived at school, and since there was no other option, I had to turn the skirt sideways and use my hand to cover the torn side throughout the day. It was crazy – Sayo

Some zippers are scum

It happened in year one during a presentation. So, my sister and I finally got high-waisted skirts, and I wore them for a presentation. Before the presentation, I stooped down and discovered the side zip was faulty. It was my turn to present, and after being unable to find a solution, I just placed my hand on my hip and struck a pose – Hamda

Beware, heels can disappoint you

Two years ago, I bought these really cute heels and wore them to a church dinner. As the heels touched my feet, I immediately felt sexy, but when the time came for me to walk in them, uncomfortable isn’t enough to describe how I felt. The night was almost like a blur; the last few things I vividly remembered were someone picking me up because he saw me limping, and finally taking off my heels to walk barefooted- Faith

Dress Code Rules Don’t Apply

Anytime I remember this experience, it sends thrills down my spine. On a beautiful day, I decided to do my hair, and my mum offered to drop me off at the salon. Halfway through our journey, she decided to make a quick stop at the house of a friend who was celebrating her 50th birthday.

When we got into the party, it dawned on me that I was wearing a torn gown, slippers, and had messy hair. I looked homeless. It took a few calls to my friend for me to avoid a total meltdown- Rebecca

A Visit from Lady Red

A gentle breeze brushed against my skin as I walked confidently in a white gown. The moment felt magical, until nature called (only girls can understand this). It decided to add a dramatic flair to my gown by adding a little bit of colour. The funny thing is that I was far away from home, like Spiderman, and there were no transport vehicles nearby. One thing I learned from this incident is that I’m quite an expert at doing the penguin walk- Love

The Creepy Stranger’s Gaze

My friend and I visited some of our friends. I noticed a particular guy, not my friend, staring at my stomach. It was creepy and I did not want to check what he was checking out because it would seem weird. After they left, I saw that my dress was torn- Hamidat
