Emerging Expression 2024: Inaugural edition of the national undergraduate art fair

Creath Labs, the pioneering blockchain platform dedicated to fostering creativity among young talents proudly announces the successful conclusion of the first-ever national undergraduate art fair – “Emerging Expressions” held from April 5th to 7th, 2024, at The MAD House by Tikera in the University of Lagos, Lagos State, Nigeria. This groundbreaking event served as a platform to celebrate the remarkable works of emerging student artists in universities across the country.


Featuring a diverse array of artistic expressions spanning painting, mixed media, photography, sculpture, and more. Emerging Expressions welcomed 60 exhibiting artists who showcased over 100 captivating artworks. The fair kicked off with an exclusive collectors’ preview on the first day, followed by two days of open exhibition that attracted art enthusiasts, art lovers and collectors alike.

The highlight of the event was the distinguished presence of Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos and The Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, represented by Tola Akerele, the Director General of the National Theatre Nigeria. Their attendance underscored the government’s support for the growing art scene and its commitment to nurturing young talent.


In addition to the captivating artworks on display, Emerging Expressions featured engaging panel sessions that delved into various aspects of the art world. The first panel session was titled “Behind the Palette” which offered unique insights into the lives and journeys of creative professionals, shedding light on the inspirations and challenges shaping the contemporary art landscape. Moderated by Abisola Kuburat Gbadamosi (AKG) featuring the CEO of Creath Labs – John Dada, Ayoola Gbolahan, Osa7, Jide Ogunsanya, and Elizabeth Ekpetison. The second panel session, “Tech Renaissance: Revolutionizing Art Ownership,” discussing the transformative impact of technology on the art market were Chuma Anagbado, Glory Osarogie Uhunmwangho, Banjo Segun moderated by Bunmilofe Akingbola.

Emerging Expressions continued to captivate audiences with two insightful panel sessions on Day 2. The first, titled “From Campus to World Canvas”: Navigating the Transition for Today’s Contemporary Artists – provided a platform for discussions on the challenges and opportunities faced by emerging artists as they navigate their professional careers featured Julius Agbaje, Michael Igwe, Taiwo Aiyedogbon, Abiola Bodunrin aka Peniel and Mr Wahduud.

The second panel, “Curating Tomorrow: Perspectives and Expectations from Art Curators,” offered valuable insights into the evolving role of art curators in shaping the future of the art industry – this session was moderated by Valerie Fab-Uche and featured Christopher Udoh, Majid Biggar, Olufisayo Bakare and Dare Herald.

Complementing these discussions were live painting sessions, collaborative art painting, sip-and-paint activities, and live pottery demonstrations, providing attendees with immersive experiences that celebrated creativity in its many forms. Guests were also treated to the rhythms of House music fusions by Mainland House, creating an atmosphere of artistic inspiration.
Emerging Expressions was made possible through a strategic partnership with The MAD House by Tikera, an incubator for creatives at the University of Lagos, and received generous support from partners such as Febbs Premium Drinking Water, Artists Commune, Maison J Grandet. Their contributions played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event, which welcomed over 1500 participants throughout its duration.
