Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Office of the National Security Adviser to evacuate the deposed Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero.

The deputy governor said the monarch’s presence is constituting a security threat in the state.

Abdussalam said this during a press conference on Monday following the ongoing tussle over the emir position in Kano.

Ado Bayero was dethroned as Emir after the state house repealed a 2019 emirate law that was used to remove Sanusi Lamido in 2020.

Sanusi was reinstated as Emir by Kano State governor Abba Yusuf at a colourful ceremony in the government house.

Two days after his dethronement, Bayero returned to Kano and proceeded to the Nasarawa mini palace where he is currently staying.

On Sunday afternoon, protesters took to the streets in Kano demanding Ado Bayero’s reinstatement.

Some of the Protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Abba Kabir Yusuf, Obey Court Order,” “You Must Obey The Court,” “Aminu Is Still Our Emir”, “We Are Against Injustice.” and “We want the return of Aminu”.

Speaking on the crisis in Kano, Abdussalam appealed to President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser and other agencies concerned to investigate the happenings in Kano.

According to the Deputy Governor, the crisis relates to the deposed Emir, and immediate steps should be taken to evacuate him from his current residence and remove him from the state because he is constituting a security threat in the state.

“A lot of efforts were put in place to reach out to the President on happenings around the chieftaincy matters.”

Abdussalam accused certain individuals of instigating sporadic protests against both the scrapping of the emirates and Sanusi’s reinstatement.

“But the unfortunate thing is that it seems somewhere, somehow, some people up there, because the security chiefs told us point blank that they cannot flout directive from above,” he said.

“It means somebody above is directing this is what should happen. Somebody was directing the security men, police and DSS should escort the emir to Kano and directives were given that they also received him here and were kept at the Nassarawa palace and a few meters away from the Governor’s office and residence.”
