Enugu residents decry alleged destruction of outcasts’ property

• Monarch denies allegation
Enugu residents, yesterday, decried destruction of property belonging to persons labelled as outcasts in Akpawfu community, Nkanu East Council Area of Enugu State, by those allegedly working for the traditional ruler of Ajame Ameze Autonomous Community, His highness, Christopher Nnamani.

The residents accused the monarch of using his personal armed men to perpetrate the unholy act in Ishiagu Akpawfu and Ajame Ameze Autonomous communities and appealed to the state government and security operatives to come to their rescue.

When contacted, Igwe Nnamani dismissed the allegation, describing it as a case of “kettle calling pot black”.

The monarch said that he knew nothing about the destruction, alleging, however, that certain persons recently killed by soldiers during operation in the community were “deadly kidnappers and armed robbers”.

Addressing newsmen on the development, two concerned indigenes of the communities, Felix Ani and Ikechukwu Udeh, said: “It is in the public domain that the Igwe had given those he alleged to be outcast up to December 2022 to vacate his community, or face his hammer.

“We are calling on Enugu State government and the Commissioner of Police, to as a matter of urgency, come to our rescue by calling Igwe Christopher Nnamani to order, and also make sure that he is brought to book for all these atrocious crimes against innocent people of his community.”

Ani accused the monarch of engaging a certain outlawed group in the community, which he used to hound those opposed to him.

“There is serious tension in the communities since they started destroying and chasing away people they call outcasts.

“Our people have deserted the communities for fear of the private army terrorising us,” he added.
