Former African champions, Enyimba, have cancelled the agreement they had with Esperance of Tunisia over the transfer of midfielder Kingsley Sokari, accusing the North African team of insincerity.

Esperance have shown that they are not to be trusted,” explained Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu. “The time we gave them to pay the player’s transfer fee has since elapsed, but we kept on giving them a period of grace.

But we can wait no more and so we have decided to cancel the agreement we have with them. “We will write them officially to that effect.” Both clubs had signed an agreement for the transfer of Sokari to the Tunis club with the player going further to sign a contract with Esperance on June 22 after playing for Nigeria at the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.

The agreement between Enyimba and Esperance was that the Tunisians would pay the transfer fee for Sokari after concluding a contract with the midfielder within a time frame after which the International Transfer Certificate will be sent to the Tunisia Football Federation. However, more than a month after the agreement was reached, the North Africans have reneged on their part of the agreement and Enyimba now say they are opting out of the deal.

However, Sokari’s return to Enyimba has been delayed as he has joined the Nigeria training camp preparing for the return leg match of their CAF U23 Championship qualifier against Congo. The Flying Eagles star missed the first leg of the fixture in Port Harcourt on June 19 because of the Esperance transfer. Meanwhile, the six-time Nigerian champions have signed under-20 international, Joshua Enaholo, from lower division side, MFM.

Enaholo, who was in goal for Nigeria during the 2015 African Youth Championship (AYC) and the Fifa Under-20 World Cup, has been cleared by his club to make the move to the Aba Elephants. Supersport.com learnt that Enaholo is already in Aba and was expected to undergo medicals yesterday to compete his transfer to the former African champions.

Enyimba’s scouting team identified Enaholo as a transfer target after losing to the Flying Eagles during the Super Six Invitational, in Abuja. Enaholo’s arrival has increased the number of goalkeepers at Enyimba and will equally boost competition in goal as club gaffer, Kadiri Ikhana, seeks for an unprecedented seventh title.
