The media entrepreneur, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, has unveiled plans to ensure more global recognition for Nollywood. Already, Nollywood is poised to have a third appearance at the Essence Film Festival, in collaboration with That Good Media (TGM), where Etim-Effiong serves as founder and CEO. The event will attract both Nollywood practitioners and influential figures from Hollywood, and facilitate a rich exchange of ideas and experiences.

The panel, titled, “Building Bridges: Collaborating with Nollywood for Global Success,” aims to underline the importance of international partnerships in elevating the industry on world stage.

Panelists will discuss strategic alliances and the role of storytelling in fostering cultural exchanges and deepening global understanding.

Billed to hold in New Orleans, United States of America, from July 5 to 7, 2024, with a special Nollywood activation on July 5, the appearance at the festival will mark a significant milestone in the industry’s journey toward international acclaim.

The 2023 edition featured prominent Nigerian film personalities such as Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Stella Damasus and others.

For Etim-Effiong, “Our participation at Essence Film Festival not only showcases the unique narratives and talents of Nollywood, but also reinforces our commitment to creating global dialogues through film.

“This year, we are not having a day to ourselves; however, we will be having a place on the main stage. We will be interacting with other filmmakers, and having conversations with others to foster relationships and shine light on Nollywood. I believe that will further the collaboration we are looking for.”

Director of the film festival, Lamonia Brown, said: “We are thrilled to host Nollywood’s vibrant showcase, which is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and storytelling prowess that Nigerian cinema brings to our global audience.”
